Are you feeling burnt out? Are your emotional batteries running on empty? This summer is the perfect opportunity for you to take time for yourself and recharge your emotional batteries.

After long days of fulfilling all of life’s responsibilities, it’s easy to forget to care for yourself. However self-care is a key part of healthy living. Making time for the things that you enjoy on a routine basis, even if it’s only for a few minutes each day, will help you to feel better.

Here are some tips to get yourself feeling 100% charged again:

1. Take your vacation time -
It’s easy to get wrapped up in the turmoil of everyday life and push off taking time to rest and relax. Schedule your vacation time and take advantage of potential days off. When you have off, be sure to use that time to recharge instead of running errands or catching up on your to-do list.

2. Spend time outside -
Sunlight is good for your mental health and exposure to the sun has numerous health benefits. Go for a hike, lay by the pool, jump in a lake, or hang on the beach to get in time outdoors. Do whatever activities bring you joy, and be sure to plan them outside while the weather is nice.

3. Cultivate hobbies -
Now is a great time to try something new or engage in your favorite hobby. Get lost in a book you’ve been meaning to read, give painting a try, or pick up a new sport like pickleball or bike riding. Maybe you’ve been dying to try out that fitness class that your friends go to. No matter the hobby, carve out time to enjoy it!

4. Practice meditation -
If you find yourself unable to relax, set some time aside for a guided meditation to put your mind and body at ease. Allow yourself to focus on your breath and bodily sensations instead of the constant flow of thoughts through your mind. If your mind drifts, that’s okay! Gently guide yourself back to the meditative practice.

5. Take a break from technology and social media -
Give your eyes and mind a break from the constant bombardment of images and information. You spend so much time looking at screens, so take a break to be in the moment. Put your devices aside and recharge your own batteries instead of your phone’s.

In order to feel recharged and at your best, prioritize self-care. Make sure to pause and do something for yourself when you notice that your batteries are running low. The warm, relaxing days of this summer are the ideal time to recharge your batteries and get back to feeling your best!
