The 3 R's for a Happy and Healthy New Year
Now that the holiday festivities have ended, you are probably excited to start a brand new year. Maybe 2016 did not go as you expected and you are eager for the journey that awaits you in the new year. This can be a time to reset, refresh and re-evaluate your life and the goals you would like to achieve. As the majority of people don't keep to their New Year's for longer than two months, it requires planning and strategy in order to make it happen!
Here are three tips to ensure you stay on the path toward your 2017 goals:
- Reset: Reset your mindset. Many times we have expectations of we would like to see happen for the new year. Perhaps you’ve experienced many hardships and adversities in previous years and struggle with having a renewed mind. Instead of telling yourself negative thoughts and words, replace them with positivity. Don’t allow self-doubt, shame, guilt and frustrations to burden your soul. You can practice positive self-talk to live a happier and more content life.
- Refresh: Refreshing your life can be a great way to reduce stress and anxiety. Some practical ways of refreshing your life are exercising gratitude daily and using mindfulness skills. Create practical self care strategies that will be beneficial to your well-being. Make a consistent effort instead of expecting quick results.
- Re-evaluate: In order to refrain from being overwhelmed, it’s important to be intentional with how you choose to spend your time. Re-evaluate your priorities for the new year and make the necessary changes to be more effective and not feel defeated. Re-evaluate the individuals you spend most of your time with and foster positive relationships around you.
As you embark on a new journey this year, learn to be compassionate towards yourself. You are human and you will make mistakes, so instead of striving for perfection just tell yourself that everything will be okay or find new, creative ways for improvement. Using the 3 R's you can stay on the path!
