New Year's Resolutions? Don't Bother!
We all have things we want to change in our lives. A New Year’s Resolution seems like a decent way to kick off the year and set some new personal goals. However, time and again we end up disappointing ourselves as the promises we make peter out around the end of January. And then, of course, we back we go to our old habits!
So, if you are ready to make some lasting changes, here is the answer:
Throw your resolutions for 2017 out the window! Most resolutions don’t work because you are focused on the end goal and not thinking of the small steps in the process that you need in order to get there. And most people give up on their plans if they don’t feel successful from the outset.
If your resolution for 2017 was, “I will lose weight,” keep in mind that that is a process. It’s not just about dreaming of yourself in a smaller size or fitting in to your “skinny” clothes, but rather about eating healthier, exercising, gaining strength and finding balance in your life.
Set realistic and manageable goals that you can actually achieve such as “I will go to the gym three times a week for 30 minutes each” and “I will prepare my meals for each day so that I know I will have nourishing and tasty options available.”
With each “mini-goal” you set, stop for a minute and focus on what you have conquered so far until the goal of losing weight inches closer.
You will find through time as you keep tackling and accomplishing the baby steps, you will become more confident in your ability to be successful, and the small steps won’t feel so big anymore. It sometimes feels like climbing a mountain, however we all do this one step at a time!
Throwing your resolutions out the window also allows space to create a winning formula for your goal-setting as well as opportunity for you to actually be successful!
